We heard that President Uhuru Kenyatta has reserved thirty Percent of government tenders for the youth. The idea is good. Maybe even laudable. However if not implemented well the result might not be as intended.
Jukistopia, thinks we are overdoing this pro-youth thing. Affirmative action has always appeared like discrimination. But besides bordering on discrimination, the action can send the message to the younger generation that there is no place for elderly people in our society. The payback could be immediate.
For example when Mr. Moi in the runup to 2002 elections started preaching the young good-oold bad doctrine, incidentally while selling his Uhuru project, old people started being burned in Kilifi and Kisii.
Old people can be more vulnerable than young people. They need protection, They need help
Identifying vulnerabilities in older, especially those created and distributed over the lifecourse and understanding the causes and consequences of their vulnerability should be any governments concern
This can be achieved by identifying high risk groups, like the poor, childless, frail or isolated. Others are being exposed to a threat, of a threat materialising, and of lacking the defences or resources to deal with a threat, homelessness in Britain, the other on familial care provision in Indonesia – to illustrate the ways in which specific vulnerabilities are .
