Who is fooling who?

Back in the day when Makothe had a red Sanyo radiogram, one of the numbers that would ring the air at Kĩguturĩ was ‘Whos fooling who by Double You’. Its refrain went something like this

Tell me whoWho’s fooling whoAre you fooling meOr I am fooling youWho’s, who’s fooling who

The neo Christian church of Kenya is now back to openly selling indulgences. They call them Harambees but no one is being fooled. The proceeds of these indulgences are building magnificent structures “for the lord” while making evangelists and deacons out of politicos. This is both good of the church leaders and good for the church leaders. Helping the Ecclesia in any way is always good.
That said, there is some irony in all this. The irony is, this practice that saw Martin Luther excommunicated by the pope is now being practised by the section of the Christian fallout that was borne out of Luther’s teaching against indulgences.
But making evangelists out of politicos is flout with risks. Why?
It is said that you know a politician is lying if you see his lips moving. Hence the question doing the rounds in Jukistopia is, between the politician purporting to unequivocally support the Ecclesia and the man of the cloth promising absolution from past, present and future sins, who is fooling who?
…….those days, any song worth its vinyl label would fade at the end. The fade for Double You’s Hot single went something like this

“who’s fooling who, who’s fooling who, who’s fooling who, who’s fooling who……”
